Discovering Yanaka: Join me on a Tour of Old-Tokyo

Yanaka is one of the “old” Shitamachi neighbourhoods of Tokyo that will give you a taste of pre-war Japan. The boyfriend and I spent almost all our second day in Tokyo discovering the area, roughly adhering to the tour that is described in the Tokyo Guide by Monocle. The tour starts at Yanaka Cemetery, leading through a set of streets with traditional wooden houses, temples and shrines. Many beautiful craft stores, cafés and bars have found their homes in this neighborhood. Also, much of the everyday life in the neighborhoods seems to be happening on the streets – something that is rather unusual for other parts of Tokyo.
