The Côte d’Azur had been one of my favourite parts of Europe since my first visit in 2013. In 2017 the boyfriend and I decided that another visit was in order so that we could give summer a proper farewell. One long weekend in September we packed our bags, refreshed our holiday playlist and jumped into the car. Our destination: L’Hôtel Les Roches Rouges – a beautiful, well-designed hotel right by the ocean, close to Saint Raphaël.
L’Hôtel Les Roches Rouges is Paradise
I would be lying if I did not admit that it wasn’t the intense coverage of the hotel on Instagram during the summer months that inspired me to go there. Congratulations to the team of Les Roches Rouges – your Influencer strategy worked. The pictures and raving reviews on Instagram did not lie; the place is paradise.
The location right by the sea is brilliant. There is an abundance of sunbeds, the service is laid-back but courteous, and the beds are the comfiest I have ever slept in. I already miss falling asleep and waking up to the sound of the ocean and the view from our private balcony. In the mornings, I went for swims in the rock pool. The water was still warmer than the air, while the sun was slowly appearing behind the rocks of the Massif d’Esterel. As most people were just waking up, I had the pool all to myself for a few minutes.
Eat, Drink, Read, Swim, Relax
You can also book Spa treatments; there are yoga courses, movie nights, petanque lessons and you can borrow a kayak or paddle boards. But, in the end, all we did was lie by the pool, go for swims, read, drink rosé, nibble on delicious food and relax. I think I have never been on a lazier vacation in my life. It was terrific and just what we needed. We did not even really leave the hotel. Instead, we invited friends over who stayed in a town nearby and had drinks and dinner with them.
There are two restaurants at Les Roches Rouges. Upstairs there is a fancy restaurant that is only open on the weekend and serves a set menu. Downstairs you can order local dishes à la carte. The selection is not endless, but there is always a special of the day. All meals are meant to be shared, so the servings are rather big. The wine list is brilliant and gives you the chance to explore many local and organic wines.
Some Impressions from Les Roches Rouges
I also took heaps of pictures during our stay. So, let me take you along on a September weekend at Hôtel Les Roches Rouges:
