I love how the last months of the past year and the beginning of 2018 were shaped by so many women coming forward, finally pointing towards the inequalities that do exist between men and women and the injustices women face in their daily lives. I admire the spirit of empowerment and the atmosphere of change that events like the Golden Globes spread throughout the media. And, I sincerely hope that they will have an impact beyond the film industry. I am hopeful that feminism has finally become a mass movement and I appreciate how many women – and men – got on board.
But, I constantly ask myself the following questions: What were the things that kept so many of us quiet for so long? And, what enabled all these women to come forward now? What role did the rise of feminism in pop-culture, the general political climate in the Western world and other developments in society play in all this?
So, I was wondering if anyone of you knows of any good articles, books or links that could help me answer these questions. Any messages or comments are genuinely appreciated and might find their way back into a post, too.
