Ana Kraš.

Ana Kraš is a designer hailing from Serbia. She eventually moved to the States, where she works as a designer. I came across her bonbon lamps via tumblr and really took a liking to these objects. This video by The Avant/Garde Diaries, let’s Ana speak for herself, about her work and making a new home far from home. She inspires me as a person and artist, not only because of her approach to use her hands to create simple objects, turning them into somethings special by attending to the small detail – “a shy little gesture that you try to add to a very basic thing“, but also the modesty that resonates in her words. Underwater.

How much I miss swimming in the ocean. These are some pictures taken with a cheap underwater camera that accompanied me to Sydney’s beaches on hot summers days. I really like the results. They remind me of pictures I took during my short trip to Menorca. While the Southern Hemisphere is waiting for autumn, we are still desperately waiting for spring, I hope Easter will bring some of it. I am going on a little trip over the holidays and I am very much looking forward to it.

Lisa is my bestest friend in the world, she is also the best colleague and the best ex-roommate. Ex-, not because we did not get along, but because of the love she found and moved in with. Something I am very happy about, even though I do miss her presence in the apartment dearly. Lisa and I met more than 7 years ago somewhere in the world wide web and I am still grateful for this. Together we laugh until our bellies hurt and we hold each other when we cry. We are dream team, in private and professionally, and I know she will always be there. We understand each other by just looking in each others eyes. We look out for each other.

Lisa wrote a book, no two books, the latest of which came out only a few days ago. It’s called “Bist du noch wach?” and is written in German. It deals with love, friendship, family and living together. When reading it, sitting in the room next to the room where she wrote large parts of it, I sometimes get goosebumps. I remember the sound of the keyboard through the door and I have to smile when I detect characteristics of her, of us, buried in those wonderful paragraphs. When I saw the book on the pile marked Books that are important (to us) at one of my favorite bookstores the other day, I was so proud and almost started a selling initiative, jumping on the table and handing out a copy to every costumer passing by. Since I tend to be an introvert and not the kind of person to start something like this on a Saturday at 9 p.m. in a crowded bookstore, I decided to tell you about this wonderful person and her great work here instead. I hope one day her books will be translated into English, so even more people will be able to read and love them. If that does not happen, I advise you to learn German, so you do not miss out. You should follow her blog and take a look at the great pictures she posts on Instagram. Be nice to her, otherwise I will hit you on the nose!

While waiting for the winter to leave, we take walks through Berlin’s empty parks. Our finger tips are frozen when take pictures of the first willow catkins and we observe the deer grazing through last year’s autumn leaves. 4 days until the beginning of spring. 15 days until Easter. I am counting the days.

Christer Strömholm Retrospektive . C/O Berlin

A young couple in a Parisian café in the 1960s and a portrait of Le Cobusier. These werde my two favorites in the very stunning Christer Strömholm Retrospektive at C/O Berlin. It’s the last exhibition hosted in the old Postfuhramt, a place I always loved to visit to see some great photographs while moving through rooms breathing old Berlin history. I will miss the building dearly and their move breaks my heart. You will still have the chance to see the exhibit and pay the building a last visit till the 8th of March, before it will be renovated and repurposed. C/O Berlin will reopen at their new location, the Amerika Haus, in autumn 2013.
