10 Books for Your 2017 Reading List

Oh, the pleasure of reading! Isn’t it the best past-time ever? But while I love reading, I seem to love buying books even more. To me, there is no better remedy after a stressful day than to unwind by visiting a bookstore. I love spending time in bookstores and never leave empty-handed. It’s my kind of retail therapy.

So, our shelf is full and there are books piling up in many corners of our home. But obviously, I have not read every book I own. I guess I am not alone in this, as in the Japanese language there is even a word for this phenomenon:

“Tsundoku” – the act of buying a book and leaving it unread, often piled together with other unread books.

So, my plan for this year is to read more of the books that have patiently waited on the shelf for quite a while now, as well as some books I started but never finished.

My 2017 reading list, so far …

Sternstunden der Menschheit by Stefan Zweig

Walden by Henry David Thoreau

The Age of Magic by Ben Okri

Tove Jansson – Life, Art, Words by Boel Westin

Sanshiro by Natsume Soseki

Moshi Moshi by Banana Yoshimoto

The News – A User’s Manual by Alain de Botton

Gegen den Hass by Carolin Emcke

Nineteen Eighty-Four by George Orwell

Unspeakable Things by Laurie Penny
